Voice Coaches Radio #674 – Being Multi Could Be Your Pay Off
Voice coaches, radio, everything voiceover. Do you feel that? That right there, that is summer, desperately trying to creep in. If you're somebody in the northeast, you know what I'm talking about. My name is Marissa. Welcome to a brand new episode, a voice coaches radio. I am so incredibly pasty, pale, and I have been trying to use this like canned tan stuff because, you know, it's like better for you than going into a tanning bed.
And I, uh, I'm just, I miss the sun and it, it really has not come out at all so much, uh, this, this may. And it's, it's very frustrating, you know, 'cause it's like we had warm temps for like a second and I'm like, man, it's coming early this year. Then it like went completely away and, and I've been so sad ever since.
Uh, it's just, it's hard, you know, because this area, especially like. We, we suffer with cold weather for so long that like these couple months of summer that we get these nice months that they are so incredibly vital. I think just for our own mental sanity. Uh, and when we are gloomy, as all gloomy can be, and it's near the end of May, I think a lot of us are just like, what is going on?
So don't mind, uh, don't mind your friends that are. You know, hanging out in New England or New York or something. 'cause uh, we're, we're gonna get through it. We just, um, we're having a time right now, is what I'm getting at. But here we are, we are about to embark the unofficial kickoff to summer with Memorial Day weekend as this episode is dropping and, uh, you know, hopefully you've got some, some good plans in store for yourself.
You're ready to go ahead and, uh. You know, let loose a little bit if it's gonna be nice weather for you, I'm assuming some swimming, some cookouts, some good time with some people that you care about the most. You know, maybe there's some, some me time in there. I know I personally need to be much better at scheduling that me time for me, most of my days, if I have any downtime, you'll find me still working.
Like, I'm just ridiculous. I, my fiance said that the other night, like, you know, she, she was over there playing Fortnite. Uh, I pulled out my laptop while we had the other TV on and she's like, could you just stop for five minutes? And I'm like, I mean, what am I supposed to do? Am I just supposed to sit here and do nothing?
No, I was supposed to sit there and watch the dang show, but no, instead I still, I was watching the show, but also prepping for the next day. 'cause that's just who I am. But, um, you know, this is also why I have so many jobs because I just never stop. But that being said, you know, the, the, the time that you might have off over this Memorial Day weekend, even if you can schedule like 30 minutes for you.
Maybe it's 30 minutes that you spend on your craft. It's 30 minutes on the things that bring you joy. It's 30 minutes of exploring some different things in voiceover. Maybe it's, it's like 30 minutes of understanding about what we're gonna talk about today and how you can start navigating yourself a little bit differently than maybe you have been because you knew that you could do this, but you haven't done anything with it yet.
How about that? Right. Sometimes we, we forget some of the abilities that we bring to the table, you know, and it's, it's very easy because, you know, we, we live with ourselves all the time. Um, you know, and we don't think that maybe somebody could utilize one of these things that we hold, but then all of a sudden, you know, somebody points it out and you're like, holy crap, you're right.
I could have been. Going in that direction this whole time and maybe making some money on that without even realizing it. You know, this is not something that I can do. And I will tell you that right now. So this is work that maybe you could get that I most certainly could not. Um, because we're about to talk about you multilingual people, and you are in high demand, my friend, let me tell you, I am somebody that I like to joke that I can barely speak English and clearly.
It is a joke 'cause I'm speaking it right now. Uh, you know, I speak it much better when, when it's written on a page and I don't have to think very much. But, you know, I, I know that all I can provide is this, you know, what you hear is what you've got. And, and that's that. And I tried, you know, my, my poor little high school brain, it tried to understand Spanish, it tried to get better at it.
I could not wrap my head around it. It's like learning sheet music to me, cannot do it. I have tried, and maybe this goes back to my dyslexia, I don't know, but I am pretty sure the only reason I passed Spanish was because my teacher never wanted to see my face again. So I don't blame her, but. If you're somebody who has these abilities to not just speak English, but maybe you are fluent in Spanish, you have, you know, the good dialect to go along with it, or maybe it's French or, or something else, then the there are opportunities out there like you wouldn't believe, you know?
And, uh, I'll, I'll tell you right now, I'm still like, I'm telling you, right? Like I can't do it, but. Also, I also kind of have to try right now at the same time, a mon station, a radio station in Montreal. And, uh, as you might realize, that area is very heavily French spoken. They are like kind of 50 50 these days, but still, I mean, you've got a lot of their bridges, a lot of their roads, a lot of their businesses, a lot of their, um, you know, uh, concert arenas and, and stuff like that.
Um, a lot of the, the names. Uh, I mean, it, it requires me to have to use Google pronounce a lot and I'm up for the task. It's getting me money, you know. Here's the thing though, for, for me, they knew what they were getting when they hired me. They were not expecting me to have to go ahead and, and speak French.
Uh, you know, I don't have to necessarily have the proper dialect, but I am pretty sure that anybody that is listening to me while they know. My, me and my situation and who I am, you know, I'm sure they're hearing me slightly improve in my pronunciation of certain things as I go and as I grow, I'm doing my best.
Um, and that's really all that I can do, and that's all they can really ask for. But, you know, if you get hired for a project and it is going to require you to, to speak a different language than. You're gonna have to, you know, roll with it and you're gonna have to provide that as if that is your language.
So they, they, they tend to look for people who are fluent, who do have the proper dialects of, you know, the region or wherever they are planning on releasing whatever it is that you, you do. But you know, the thing is you have so much opportunity because. I mean, think, think of different businesses and companies when they wanna reach that next level, they can't just stay in the states.
They've gotta become a little bit more of a, a global globalization sort of situation. And this is now meaning that if they wanna have that consistency right, like the voice that's on their website. It, it, they wanna keep it the same, no matter the language, the voice that's on their commercial, they wanna keep it the same no matter the language.
They're instructionals, you know, so their employees can learn, or, you know, the com, the commercials that are on the radio or on TV, or, you know, the things that play in their stores, or, you know, all of that. They're gonna wanna have that consistency, that, that might be you. I mean, think about it. Right, like this might be something that you didn't even, it didn't even cross your mind.
You're like, yeah, no, I, I speak English and French, but all you've been doing is trying to find work near you. And all of that might be just, just English spoken, but this is a whole different animal. This is the opportunity to, to go ahead and potentially make some, some serious cash. You know, the, the demand has just been surging for this, you know, because it's, um, it's just, I, I think the way that the internet has grown, it's just allowed so much more.
And, um, you know, to go along with that, that means more opportunity, you know, so, um, it, it, it isn't just the things that. Probably come to your mind first of the work that you've already been attempting to, to get for yourself, whether it is, you know, instructional and training or it's something like an audio book.
It, it could very much, I mean, how many times have you popped on Netflix and you go to click on a show and it's dubbed over, right? Because they got it from. I dunno, China, or, I don't even know. They just, they can't even, you know, this is the problem. This is like, when I ask somebody if they have a question and they go blank, that's what I'm doing right now.
Uh, but think of another country. Um, you know, and like how when our shows go over there, like they, they're not gonna most likely have them in English. They're, they're gonna have friends in Japanese. Um, you know what I mean? So. Who's going to voice that, that might be you. Uh, there's, there's so many different things that there so much potential.
Uh, it could be animation, you know, that, that consistency there as well. Whoever's voicing it in English, maybe they're gonna wanna keep that same person for anything that they can. So, you know, if you're also speaking Japanese, but you can also speak French, like, I mean, think, think of the moneymaking opportunity.
With just that one thing that you get hired for. It's crazy when you think about it. Um, video games are the same way, you know, so the opportunities could be endless and obviously this could be a really great thing if you are somebody who is multilingual. And just understand that I am very jealous right now 'cause my brain doesn't work that way.
My, my brain sometimes doesn't compute. Things at all. Uh, you know, especially here on a Friday as things are winding down. Uh, but listen, we're gonna have a brand new episode coming at you next Friday. Um, so you can always, always hit me up, [email protected], M-A-R-I-S-S [email protected] and, uh, we'll, we'll get to a brand new topic coming up next week, and I just hope that you have an.
Absolutely fantastic Memorial Day weekend. I hope there's sun, I hope there's swimming and cookouts and times with friends and, uh, that you are feeling good and, uh, ready to enjoy the summer, uh, 'cause I know I most certainly am, but I'll talk to you next week, whatever you're doing. Stay safe, everybody.

This week on Voice Coaches Radio, Marissa knows, while she can’t do this, you just might be able to…are you multilingual? Have you only been pursuing opportunities for English spoke projects? You may be missing out by ignoring your abilities.
