2012 Annie Awards Nominees Announced!

Annie AwardsIt’s that time of year again! The International Animated Film Society has announced the nominees for the 40th annual Annie Awards! The Annie Awards are the only awards ceremony dedicated solely to the animated arts, and as always, there are a couple of categories dedicated solely to voice overs!

Nominations in the two voice-related categories are:

Voice Acting in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production:

  • James Patrick Stuart — Voice of Private in Penguins of Madagascar: High Moltage
  • Jeff Bennett — Voice of Keswick in T.U.F.F. Puppy: Pup Daddy
  • Jessica Walter — Voice of Malory Archer in Archer: Lo Scandolo
  • Kevin Michael Richardson — Voice of Willem Viceroy in Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja: Gossip Boy
  • Kristen Schaal — Voice of Mabel Pines in Gravity Falls: Tourist Trapped
  • Mae Whitman — Voice of April O’Neil in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rise of the Turtles
  • Sam Witwer — Voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Revenge
  • Tom McGrath — Voice of Skipper in Penguins of Madagascar: The Otter Woman


Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Production:

  • Adam Sandler — Voice of Dracula in Hotel Transylvania
  • Alan Tudyk — Voice of King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph
  • Atticus Shaffer — Voice of “E”Gore in Frankenweenie
  • Catherine O’Hara — Voice of Weird Girl in Frankenweenier
  • Imelda Staunton — Voice of Queen Victoria in The Pirates! Band of Misfits
  • Jim Cummings — Voice of Budzo in Adventures in Zambezia
  • Jude Law — Voice of Pitch in Rise of the Guardians
  • Kelly MacDonald — Voice of Merida in Brave


There were also some “best of” categories which certainly couldn’t have gotten nominated without the help of their talented casts!

Best Picture nominees:

  • Hotel Transylvania – Sony Pictures Animation
  • ParaNorman – Focus Features
  • Rise of the Guardians – DreamWorks Animation
  • The Pirates! Band of Misfits – Aardman Animations
  • The Rabbi’s Cat – GKIDS
  • Wreck-It Ralph – Walt Disney Animation Studios


Annie Award for Best Animated Special Production:

  • Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 – Warner Bros. Animation
  • Before Orel – Trust – Starburns Industries, Inc.
  • Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem – Illumination Entertainment
  • Disney Tron: Uprising – Beck’s Beginning – Disney TV Animation
  • Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury – DreamWorks Animation
  • Justice League: Doom – Warner Bros. Animation


Best General Audience Animated Television Production:

The Annie Awards will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, California.
