RIP, Dick Tufeld
While he wasn’t a household name, Dick Tufeld was a voice actor whose voice will live on forever thanks to one iconic character he portrayed: The B9 Robot (also known as Robbie the Robot) on Lost in Space, who’s popular catchphrase “Danger, Will Robinson, Danger” is one of thee most famous phrases in pop culture. Sadly, Mr. Tufeld passed away at the age of 85 on Sunday, January 22nd, 2012.
The video above shows Mr. Tufeld’s work as the B9 robot, uttering some of his most famous catchphrases. And while this might be his most iconic character, Mr. Tufeld was a longtime, career voice actor whose credits spanned over 50 years. Below is a vintage Mr. Bubble commercial that Tufeld provided the voice for.
Mr. Tufeld was also the narrator for an enormous amount of TV shows and cartoons, including Lost in Space, Zorro, The Time Tunnel, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, and the Fantastic Four, among others. Below is a video featuring Mr. Tufeld narrating the intro of Thundarr the Barbarian, one of my favorite childhood cartoons.
Mr. Tufeld was an accomplished voice actor and radio broadcaster, and he was a part of some truly iconic television properties. While he will be missed, his voice will live on forever. RIP, Dick, and thanks for the memories.
