VO Behind-The-Scenes: Spider-Tron

Posted 11:46 am by team

In this installment of Voice Overs of the World, we have behind-the-scenes looks at the voice acting in two of the hottest games on the market right now.

First up, we have a look at the making of Spider-Man: Shattered DImensions, which features not one, not two, but four versions of Spider-Man! What’s great about this game is that not only did the game developers use different voice talent for each Spidey, but they actually went back to the Spideys of the past, bringing back Dan Gilvezan from the ’80s cartoon Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends and C.B. Barnes from the ’90s Spider Man: The Animated Series. Of course, we also get Neil Patrick Harris (who’s been very busy in voice-overs lately) as the main Spider-Man, which is always a treat. Harris gives a good perspective on the dialogue demands of a video game, discussing how many different lines he had to read for every possible action in the game.

I also love watching the footage of each of the actors in the recording booth. You can really get a sense of how much performance they all put into their time in the booth; they’re not just standing back and reading lines, but really getting into the character. I can’t wait to see how the four characters come together on screen.

Next up we have a behind-the-scenes look at the video game Tron: Legacy, based on the upcoming Disney movie. Aside from getting to hear from a variety of voice actors (both celebrity actors and non-celebrities), we get to see some cool video game footage and some great moments with the actors in the booth. I also like how Jensen Ackles talks about the fluidity and flexibility of voice acting compared to on-camera acting. It’s one of the great things about the field! It’s also clear to me that all of the actors are very passionate about their characters, which always makes for a great performance. (Although John Glover looks like he might have enjoyed his role a little too much! Yikes!)
