Voice Coaches was saddened to hear that Billie Mae Richards, best known as the voice of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in the ever-popular Rankin-Bass specials from the 1960s, passed away on Friday, September 10th.

Billie Mae Richards played Rudolph in several Rankin-Bass specials and is known worldwide for her portrayal of the character. She was also a starring voice in the Care Bears television cartoon series and movies. The Rudolph specials have been on the air since 1965, and they get repeated every single year without fail. Millions of children across the world have grown up to the sounds of the character created by an incredibly talented voice actor. If that doesn’t speak volumes about her talent, I don’t know what does.

Ms. Richards had a lengthy career as a voice actor. Her other roles included voices in the 1960s Spider-Man cartoon, The Smokey The Bear Show, the Godzilla spin-off film Gamera The Invincible, and TV shows like Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Trolls, and Rupert and the Sea Serpent.

Thanks for all the memories, Billie May. Your voice will live on for generations to come.
