We Predict Election Winner!

And The Winner Is...

I am an American and a small business owner. I don't know about any of you, but I am always impressed with the men and woman who are willing to run for president. Regardless of Obam-inality, or McCain-ism, it is impressive to see individuals who are committed to leading, particularly in these complicated times.

Regardless of how either candidate does, if you are pursuing voice over work professionally... YOU are the winner!

Why?!!

Because instead of sitting back and complaining or worrying about the economy, you are taking an active role in your financial future. Instead of relying solely on your current employer or former employer's pension to afford you a comfortable lifestyle, you are working to control that on your terms.

Far too many people are content to sit on the sidelines when it comes to the things that they want to do in life. This willingness to always be reliant on others is part of the reason that many of us run into financial and lack-of-fulfillment issues to begin with. From the time you make a decision to achieve something, you are putting yourself in a winning position. Regardless of election polls and news reports, you ultimately control a great deal of your life's outcome.

Remember, regardless of whether you think you CAN do something, or think you CAN'T do something... you will probably be right!

Best Regards!

Great thought! As Americans we need to exercise our right to vote--so get up and do it!

I had always wanted to be a voice actor. So... I have been doing it my entire adult life because I love it and I can make some extra dollars too. We are blessed to be able to act on our dreams. We can make them happen. It just requires that we, ourselves, and no one else, take the action needed to do it. American or not, you can make it happen...or have a really good time trying.

Hi David et al,

This is a great post. Thank you for presenting this timely topic here on your blog. As you may know, we also have an election here in Canada on October 14, 2008. I wonder what your article would sound like as an episode for Voice Over Experts... if you'd like to expand on this topic and record it, I will air it before the US election as the information is very encouraging particularly, given the current economic happenings.

Sound good?

Best wishes,

Stephanie

Hey Stephanie

Thanks so much for making time to comment!! It's gotta be tough to find time when your busy running the most client friendly service of it's kind! As you know, our clients LOVE voices.com!
I will say, in regards to the post, that there seems to be a divide in personality type. There are those who feel tremendously impacted by what others, like news agencies, tell them is going on in the world... and then there are those that both you and I are fortunate to work with... individuals who drive and create their own destiny!
I am not in any way saying that the economy hasn't effected people... it's effected members of my own family! What I am saying is that it's sure rewarding to stare the economy in the face and take active steps to rewrite one's own situation.
I have never experienced more people moving into our field as a way of doing this. And regardless of whether it's voice over or anything else... I say go out and do it!
I will get you a podcast next week.
Give David our best!

Elect to succeed! I am running my own success campaign, and it isn't just for '09!

No matter what you choose to do ... Voice Acting, Carpentry, Ballroom Dancing or making Jam! JUST DO IT! Funny thing is, no one tells you if you are interested in becoming a carpenter that "Eeehhh, maybe that isn't such a good idea." But anything in the arts ... suddenly the support team around you doubts your success. Don't doubt yourself, if you love it ... DO IT!

I remember a conversation I had with a local (and successful) actress, which said she constantly received comments from her friends like: "Are you still doing that 'Acting-thing?'" This comment upset her, since the tone, and devaluing made it seem as if it was a trite little whim or phase she was going through. And that she wanted to comment back: "Are you still doing that 'married and kids thing' ???" to make them aware that their comments were not supportive.

Moral: Elect your own success; don't let the "media" dictate your reality.

David,
Excellent and inspiring thoughts! Your words of wisdom regarding a can do attitude and never-ending persistence have continued to inspire me through out the economic downturns in my VO career. Im riding a wave now with three regional spots running and an e-learning program rolling (the one you directed), but when things are quiet I go back to my VoiceCoaches training and Expo notes to get me through. THANKS - keep on inspiring youve got my vote!

Hey Kevin

Thanks for the kind words! It was a pleasure to work with you on the training piece we did. I have to tell you that I am seeing more and more voice actors find opportunities in web based work. From product descriptions, information and education, there is a lot of opportunity there. Podcasting is also broadening. Keep up your great work and I'm sure the work will continue to LOOK FOR YOU!

Thanks again Kevin!

I'm submitting a write-in ballot for ME!

Ironically, I never wanted to start my own business, but I want to do voice-overs. The training from voice coaches got me in the right mind-set and blogs such as this keep me motivated.

Today, even before I received my demo, I sank my first (paying) job for a new company on the web.

Thanks David, Robin, Mike, John, and Kirsten.

David,
Thanks for the inspiring words.
Everyone at Voice Coaches has been consistently positive
and encouraging.
My other business - real estate - has been
in the midst of depression all year.
Working on my new voice-over business is keeping me sane
and smiling.
You guys are the best!

In relation to the last comment, I am still doing the whole 'kids' thing which I totally love and believe in. However, I am now getting into the totally wonderful fun world of the "voice acting thingy" too. Thank you America and thank you Voicecoaches. I'm totally new, haven't even done my first job yet but I will. A close friend of mine recently told me ... Sally, I have spoken to a lot of my women friends who are trying to get back into work after children and of all the things people are doing, what you are doing has to be
the 'coolest'! Ta daaaaaaa!

This friend is a high flier. She has presence and I trust her
opinion. The icing on the cake is that my kids think this whole "acting" thing is totally 'cool' too and that is certainly good enough for me. If my kids think I am cool, then what else matters?

The point is we have to BELIEVE in ourselves.

Thank you David for you positive message. As a recently graduated student of Voice Coaches, the thing I have appreciated the most from my training is that you and your organization tell it like it is. I was never painted a rosy picture of landing all kinds of work after
My training was complete but at the same time the idea of never giving up was also communicated very clearly. I believe there will always be ups and downs in the economy that will affect any business, but I also believe that with faith in yourself, hard work and lots
of persistence you can be successful. Since I graduated from Voice Coaches in May, I've already landed several jobs. I thank you for the positive outlook in your blog and for this philosophy and training I learned through Voice Coaches.
