Voice Overs Of The World: Roam Rage

Posted 7:10 pm by KikiVassilakis

We’ve focused on voice overs from all over this fair globe of ours here in Voice Overs of the World, from the United States to Great Britain to South America and many places in between. But I think this might be the first time we’ve focused on voice overs from our neighbors to the North, the great country of Canada.

The commercials we’re looking at today are from a Canadian mobile phone company, and I have to say these ads crack me up. They’re both very well written and very well acted, but of course, it’s the voice overs that really put them over the top. The faux-documentary style VO — combined with the on-screen action of wanton destruction — make for some truly funny ads.

Both commercials take the same approach, explaining how over-the-top roaming charges can fuel “roam rage” in otherwise normal people, who then go on a rampage. I love the way the voice actor describes the behavior of the “roam ragers” in a perfectly matter-of-fact style; it adds to the humor quite a bit.

O Canada, you crack me up!
