Voice Overs Of The World: Sesame Spice
I’m going to keep my comments short today, because I think this video speaks for itself. There have been about a million parody videos of the Old Spice “Man Your Man Could Smell Like” commercial, but this newest one features some impressive VO work from one of the masters in the field.
Yes, that is Grover, in a new ad for Sesame Street that brilliantly parodies the Old Spice commercial. (And if you’re one of the 10 people left in the world who hasn’t seen the commercial yet, I’ve posted it below for your viewing pleasure.)
As usual, Grover is played by Eric Jacobson, who has had the role since 2002 when he took over for the great Frank Oz. What’s great is that not only is Jacobson an amazing voice over actor who plays many of Frank Oz’s original characters now (including Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bare, Bert, and Animal), but he’s really captured the feel of the Old Spice commercial, which is key to any successful parody. The way he repeatedly says “Now BACK to ME,” is really terrific, just like in the original spot. Jacobson is an incredibly versatile voice actor, and it’s great to see Sesame Street jumping on the cultural bandwagon and producing relevant ads for today’s audiences. It’s simply a well done spot from start to finish.
I’m on a blog.

Great parody of what I find to be a very bad advertisement…..Eric Jacobson does a fantastic job with Grover….what a fun job!
